This article explains the recent achievement in the field of haptic, or touch feedback, technology. Using complex patterns of ultrasound, researcher Dr. Ben Long and his colleagues Professor Sriram Subramanian, Sue Ann Seah, and Tom Carter, were able to create a three dimensional floating shape that can be seen and felt. The potential of the technology ranges from medical imaging, to immersive reality technology. The article was incredibly impressive to me. Holograms seem something impossible out of a sci-fi movie, and yet the technology is now possible and effective! I was shocked to hear that the answer to creating three dimensional objects to see, was sound waves. That seems incredibly ironic to me. I really hope to see this technology develop further. I wonder into what field the technology will be implemented first, if any. I also want to know how expensive and bulky this technology is.
