Secret Life of Mice

Mice may have "ultrasonic vocalizations", meaning they use a system like echolocation to talk to each other. Humans can not hear these and have not done much research in this aspect since the vocalizations are outside of the human hearing range. The USVs are very complex, and now that we know some about them, we know that communication among mice is much more prevalent then we thought. Studies have shown that they can discriminate between sounds, emit different pitches, and these would be beneficial to the survival of a mouse. For example, if a mouse was in trouble, he might let out a high-pitched noise to try and disarm the predator, or warn other mice to get away. It is dire to delve into topics such as communication. Finding out if mice can communicate emotions, actions, etc. would be a great topic to find out more about some of the animals we live with every day.
