Is Telepathy a Super Power, or a Possibility?

Summary of "Scientists Use Internet For Brain-To-Brain Communication" by Sebastian Martinez

Sebastian Martinez reported that a group of international scientists discovered that a brain-to-brain communication can be done through internet channels. The comuncation was done between a person in France and a person in India. "The mental message of the transmitter was sent through email then translated back into brain signals [....] and delivered through flashes of light in the receiver's peripheral vision to stimulate the brain activity." It may not be very efficient at the moment, but scientist say that it "will eventually have a profound impact on the social structure of our civilization and raise important ethical issues." Unlike texting or emailing, it will allow us to use emotions, feelings, sarcasm, and other things that cannot be communicated through letters on a screen (Martinez, 2014).

I think that once the scientists have the technology to seed up the communications, make it less of a hassle to set up, it will become the main way of communication. Phones wouldn't be needed anymore, but people would still have tablets and computers to watch movies and play their favorite apps. Also, you wouldn't have to go to school because you could talk to your teacher from home. On the other hand, almost all human-to-human interaction would be eliminated. I think this telepathy style of communication should replace phones and nothing else. If we let this type of communication take over our lives, we would basically letting the computer take control of our lives. I am not anti-technology, and I enjoy technology that makes some tasks easier but there is a point where there is to much and we become to dependent on technology. I say yes to the brain-to-brain communication but only to a certain extent.

  1. Amazing!! I agree with your feeling we need a balance with technology. When technology is changing so fast, it is hard to find that balance.
