The biggest thing to walk the earth finally resurrected from its seemingly eternal slumber.

Summary of Dreadnoughtus: Gigantic, exceptionally complete sauropod dinosaur by: Drexel University.

Drexel University reported that a group of U.S-Argentinian scientists, led by their own Kenneth Lacovara, has finally finished excavating one of the most complete skeletal structures of its kind. Its name - Dreadnoughtus. This enormous herbivore would have weighed more than a dozen elephants or 7 tyrannosaurus. It is the biggest dinosaur ever unearthed whose weight can be accurately measured. Clocking in at a massive 65 tons it completely obliterates the previous record holder of worlds largest dinosaur who only weighed 47 tons, a measly size by comparison. With a body the size of a house it would have had no predator capable of bringing it down. Hence its name Dreadnoughtus, meaning “fears nothing”. However, there were some downsides such as having to eat enough to sustain its body mass. A.K.A. a serious case of the munchies. Its remarkably complete skeletal remains consisted of over 70 percent of its bones excluding the skull bones. The completeness of the body structure can be attributed to how it died. We believe that a natural levee was broken causing a flood in the valley where it lived and turned the ground into a virtual quicksand which engulfed its gigantic body. In a way “Its misfortune was our luck” [Drexel University, 2014].

When I saw this article I instinctively knew that this was the topic I would write my blog entry on. I mean, who wouldn't what to write about this bigger than life reptilian creature only recently seen by human eyes. This towering "battleship" of a dinosaur roamed the land constantly looking for food and it seemed as if the only thing capable of taking it down was a natural disaster such as a flood. The thing I couldn't quite understand was when exactly and how long it took to uncover/excavate this giant reptile. However, all in all i completely enjoyed my article and recommend you read it to fully comprehend how stunning this find actually is.
