It's all fun and games

Summary of “Better than CAPTCHA: Improved method to let computers know you are human” by University of Alabama at Birmingham

UAB has found a way to turn your boring old CAPTCHA into a fun game. These new CAPTCHAS also known as dynamic cognitive games (DCG) are proven to help bots and people form attacking sites. Your old boring CAPTCHA that has the “static distorted characters” has changed into something as easy as a moving a car into the right spot. These CAPTCHA’s are designed to be more desirable and not much of a hassle for the everyday human to do. Old CAPTCHA’s were hacked by programs that can recognize letters or hired humans who answer them and have the answers saved into the database. These new CAPTCHA’s are harder because when the hacker would save the CAPTCHA the object wouldn’t be in the same place as when it was saved because the objects move, which would lead to the computers getting the answer wrong and being locked out. These new CAPTCHA’s are a great way to keep people attention and to prevent attacks on sites. (UAB, 2014)

I think these new interactive CAPTCHA’s are something so simple that it surprises me it wasn’t thought of earlier. It makes me wonder how they exactly work and how complicated they can actually be. I found this article very interesting because it peaked my interest in computers and technology. One thing that confused me was how the computers actually hacked into the old CAPTCHA’s. This article was very informative and it was very interesting and I enjoyed it a lot.

  1. Wow. This makes me think of coevolution, like how predators and prey develop new traits either to hunt better or get away better.
