Leading Ebola Researcher Says There’s an Effective Treatment for Ebola

"Leading Ebola Researcher Says There’s an Effective Treatment for Ebola" by The University Of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston is an article about how recent studies show how Ebola could possibly be treated through vaccines. Thomas Geisbert, a professor of microbiology and immunology at the University of Texas has written an editorial for Nature talking about the possibility of a treatment for the deadly virus of Ebola. Since Ebola was discovered in 1976, scientists have been frantically searching for a cure. They haven’t found one yet but they have created vaccines to prevent the disease. They haven’t tested it on humans yet but they have tested on monkeys. The scientists say that right now, monkeys can be completely protected from Ebola after given a vaccine and been given a lethal amount of Ebola and results show that there has not been any vital signs in the monkeys after being contaminated with the virus. Thomas Geisbert states, "Antibody therapies and several other strategies should be included in the arsenal of interventions for controlling future Ebola outbreaks.”

I feel like this article was very informative. It really helped me understand what scientists and researchers are doing to help protect us from the potential outbreak of Ebola. I really enjoyed reading this article just simply because I wanted to be more informed on the topic of Ebola since it seems to be the main topic of what everyone is talking about nowadays because of the recent infection in Africa. I feel as if people should definitely read this article to inform them not to be as worried as they are to assure them that scientists are working on a vaccine to prevent the outbreak or spreading of this disease.

  1. That is encouraging! Let's hope the vaccine is approved for people and made available to people at risk asap.
