"Neuroscientists watch imagination happening in the brain" By Brigham Young University

Summary of "Neuroscientists watch imagination happening in the brain" by Brigham Young University.

Brigham Young University wrote about imagination happening in the brain. This article talks about how Sefania Ashby was thinking about and imagining her future. She wondered how memory and imagination worked together. She said, "I wondered if they were separate or if imagination is just taking past memories and combining them in different ways to form something I've never experienced before." Scientists often debate over whether both imagination and memory are distinct processes. Ashby decided to put her idea to the test. they had people take MRI scans and during the scan they showed them their pictures. They discovered distinctive patterns for memory and imagination. "Its really neat that we can see the difference between those two tasks in that small of a brain region," Ashby said. There is a distinction between memory and imagination (Brigham Young University, 2014).

I had no idea that there was a difference in memory and imagination. I couldn't believe that you can see those tasks on a MRI scan. Now that people have seen imagination and memory I wish they had talked about how you can see it. I am wondering why they thought that imagination and memory were the same, because I thought they were different. Now I want to see my imagination and memory in a picture.

  1. Interesting! I wonder how this relates to people with memory loss, Alzheimer's for example. I hope that means that even when people lose memory, they can still imagine joyful things.
