The Adventuring Emperor Penguins

Summary of "Emperor penguins are more willing to relocate than expected" by University of Minnesota

University of Minnesota wrote that emperor penguins are relocating more than was expected. The penguins are demonstrating that they are able to adapt in different environments better than the University expected. Many people that research the penguins thought that they where "Philopatric" this mean that they would come back to the same place to nest. There were six times where the penguins did not come back to the same place to nest. The researchers are tracking some penguins with satellite images and some colonies are appearing randomly. This means that they are coming from a different places and like to move in colonies. Researchers thought that there was a decline in survival rates because of the receding ice. They thought that since the temperature is getting warmer then it would make a negative impact on the penguins survival (University of Minnesota, 2014).

I was not even aware that penguins usually come back to the same places to nest in the first place. Now that I know that they are relocating more than usual interesting. I wish that this article would have explained the different places that they are starting to move around to. I also am wondering if the receding ice is caused by global warming. Now that I know the penguins are starting to move around a lot more maybe I will see one at my front door.
